Is it getting warm yet?!??

Is it just me or are we getting sloppier weather?  I know they say we had a dry December but about this time of year Im beginning to dream of a nice warm beach somewhere.  This picture was started on the North Shore on Oahu and when I look at it I remember how relaxing it was to sit in the sand and paint.  Painting outside is always a trick but especially with watercolor, it dries so much lighter than it looks when wet.  The sun also changes the density of the pigment so when I got into the hotel that night I had to readjust the darks and lights.  The best souvenirs are the ones I paint- not because Im so pleased with the execution of them...I never think a painting is done, but because when I look at them I am flooded with the feelings and sounds of being there again.  Come on Spring!!!  Oregon needs you!

9.  Grace- Golden Retriever

Grace is such a beautiful girl! Her family loves her gentle and sweet heart.  Perfect name for a perfect dog.
10.  Very brave kitty to be here with all these dogs.
How did this kitty get into our dog blog?  She is the special pet of some special friends.  Her family says of all their cats she is the most loving and affectionate.  She was rescued and must be showing her gratitude!
I have a long way to go to get to 100 dog portraits but you can help!  Send me your pictures of your dog and I will paint it for you in less than two weeks.  It will be matted and put in a protective sleeve ready for a 16 by 20 frame.  200.00 each.  Call me at 541-206-2677

100 Dog Portraits

7.  Rosie- a cheerful companion
8.  Zoe- a lifesaver

Painting Rosie was so much fun.  It was as though she couldnt wait to be painted!  Her soft face seemed to literally appear before me.

Zoe literally saved her owners life!  She sniffed and scratched at her mama's chest until she went to the doctor to see what could be troubling the little dog.  After tests, they determined she had breast cancer and were able to treat her and she is now in good health.  The doctor told her, "Your little dog saved your life!"

Botanical stuff

This picture became a souvenir of a recent trip to Hawaii.  I snapped a photo of this little beauty and came home to paint it.  Crazy colors!
I grew this in my greenhouse!
If you stare at this too long you can begin to see some wacky spaceship.
